We will explore the three main components of ISHTA yoga – Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda – and how these disciplines can lead you to personal transformation through asana, pranayama, and meditation.

Lecture: What is ISHTA yoga?
In this lecture Katrina will share with you the origins of ISHTA yoga and how it developed from the teachings of great master yogis. ISHTA is an acronym that stands for the Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda, as well as a Sanskrit word meaning “that which resonates with the individual spirit (jiva atman)”. There will be an explanation of both the individualized nature of the practice as well as the integration its three key components: Hatha, Tantra, Ayurveda.

Practice: ISHTA balancing asana exploring the Ha and Tha that make up Hatha Yoga.

Lecture: ISHTA Tantra. Tantra comes from the root words tanoti, which means “expansion”, and trayati, which means “liberation”. This lecture will focus on the Tantric approach to the practice of yoga, and will bring to life the concepts of duality and non-duality as embodied by the energetic forces of Shiva/Shakti. We will explore how to tune in to the intelligence of the Universe and bring it back to inspire each moment of your life though the practice of ISHTA meditation.

Sunday November 19th

Lecture: Ayurveda. Our physical constitution, mental patterns, and imbalances are all different and therefore what we need to focus on in our practice to bring us in to balance is also different and changes from day to day, season to season, and year to year. In this lecture, Katrina will talk about the doshas – the biological forces of life – and how your approach and intention towards your yoga practice contributes to your ability to balance your lifestyle and current condition (vrikriti) with your individual constitution (prakriti). We will learn about Ayurvedic pulse reading and how to rectify individual constitutional imbalances through asana and pranayama.

Yogiraj (Yoga Master) Katrina Repka has been studying yoga for twenty-seven years and teaching for seventeen. Her early training in Calgary, her hometown, was in the Ashtanga style, but in 2001 she moved to New York and began studying ISHTA Yoga. Katrina teaches ISHTA workshops and retreats all over the world, but is based in London where she leads teacher trainings, classes, and workshops. Katrina holds a BA and MSC (Communications), and is the co-author (with Alan Finger) and featured model of Chakra Yoga: Balancing Energy for Physical, Spiritual, and Mental Well-being, and Breathing Space: Twelve Lessons for the Modern Woman. She has been featured in numerous publications including Vogue, Elle, the Guardian and the Daily Telegraph, and as a yoga expert on BBC TV and radio.
